      Kjersti Kirkeby

      Kjersti Kirkeby, MD, FACE

      Program Director

      After graduating from Medical School at the University of Bergen, Norway, Kjersti moved to San Francisco to live with her husband, a Bay Area native. She completed her Internal Medicine residency and Chief Residency at California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) and her Endocrinology Fellowship at Stanford. After fellowship, Kjersti returned to CPMC and joined Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation. Kjersti has always been committed to medical education, and after returning to CPMC, focused her efforts on starting the Endocrinology Fellowship. Her medical practice includes all aspects of endocrinology with an emphasis on diabetes management. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, hiking, camping and traveling.

      Anthony Yin

      Anthony Yin, MD, ECNU, FACE

      Associate Program Director

      Anthony is a graduate of Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center before completing his fellowship in endocrinology at Los Angeles County Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. His clinical interests include neck ultrasonography, fine needle aspiration biopsy of thyroid nodules, cervical lymph nodes and suspected parathyroid adenoma, treatment of thyroid cancer, and male andrology. He serves on the medical staff at both California Pacific Medical Center as well as Novato Community Hospital.

      Karen Earle

      Karen Earle, MD

      Chief of Endocrinology
      Medical Director of the Center for Diabetes Services

      After graduating from Yale Medical School, Karen moved to San Francisco to complete her training at UCSF including a residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Endocrinology. Her research focused on immunology and type 1 diabetes. She moved to CPMC in 2005 to become medical director of the Center for Diabetes Services and start an endocrine private practice. She became Chief of Endocrinology at CPMC in 2006. In 2008 she joined SPMF to form an endocrine division, serving as lead of her group from 2008-2014. Her medical practice includes all aspects of endocrinology, but her primary focus is on diabetes and ways technology can improve the lives of our patients with diabetes. She is committed to medical education and works with both internal medicine residents and endocrinology fellows and serves as the assistant program director for the fellowship. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her husband and three children, cooking, hiking, and traveling.

      Diana Antoniucci

      Diana Antoniucci, MD

      Director of Metabolic Bone Disease Program

      Diana obtained her Medical Degree from Mayo Medical School, and completed her internal medicine residency at Oregon Health Sciences University. After residency, she moved to San Francisco for fellowship training in Endocrinology at UCSF. Here she pursued clinical research on phosphate metabolism and epidemiology work in calcium metabolism and osteoporosis while acquiring a Masters in Clinical Research. In 2008 she joined Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation (SPMF)’s nascent Endocrinology division, and in 2014 became lead of this group. Her clinical practice includes all aspects of endocrinology, with a focus on calcium, phosphate metabolism disorders and osteoporosis. She is committed to medical education and works with internal medicine residents and endocrinology fellows. Diana also has a special interest in the electronic medical record and is a power user for Epic at SPMF, as well as serving as a Subject Matter Expert for Endocrinology for Sutter’s electronic medical record. In her free time, she enjoys hiking and traveling with her family, with a focus on wildlife watching, reading as well as volunteering at her children’s school.

      Melissa Weinberg

      Melissa Weinberg, MD

      Medical Director of Inpatient Diabetes Program

      After graduating from Yale Medical School and completing her internal medicine residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Melissa moved to San Francisco for fellowship training in Endocrinology at UCSF. Her research focused on metabolic complications of HIV infection and quality improvement in the management of hospitalized patients with diabetes. She joined Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation and became Medical Director of Inpatient Diabetes at CPMC in 2008. She leads the Sutter Diabetes Clinical Improvement Community, which coordinates policies and practices across Sutter Health programs to promote the highest clinical quality through strategic planning, sharing best practices and performance improvement. She is also a Subject Matter Expert for Endocrinology for the electronic health record. Her medical practice includes all aspects of endocrinology, and she strives to empower her patients to take an active role in improving their health. She is committed to medical education and works with both medical residents and endocrinology fellows. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and can usually be found on the weekends watching her three sons play sports.

      Shilpa Jain

      Shilpa Jain, MD

      Director of Medical Weight Loss Program

      Shilpa graduated from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 2003. Shilpa completed her internal medicine residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and fellowship in endocrinology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). As a fellow, she conducted research on associations between adipokines and ectopic fat depots in the Framingham Heart Study and she cared for patients with obesity at BWH’s Program for Weight Management. After fellowship, she joined the Endocrinology Division at the Palo Alto Veterans Affairs Health Care System and Stanford School of Medicine. In 2015, she joined Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation to help establish a weight management program. Her medical practice includes all aspects of endocrinology with an emphasis on obesity management. She is also committed to medical education by teaching fellows and residents as well as serving as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at Stanford School of Medicine. Outside of work, Shilpa enjoys playing sports with her twin boys, traveling and cooking.

      Christina Ryu, MD

      Christina graduated from the Frank H. Netter School of Medicine. She completed internal medicine residency and endocrinology fellowship at CPMC. After fellowship, she joined the Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation. Her medical practice includes all aspects of endocrinology and her primary focus is on diabetes. Outside of work, she enjoys staying active and enjoying the outdoors.

      Allan Pont

      Allan Pont, MD

      Allan has been practicing endocrinology since 1977 when he joined the Stanford faculty after completing his endocrine fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital. In addition to his medical practice, he has served numerous local and national roles in hospital administration and medical education. He was chairman of medicine at California Pacific and its antecedents most of 1982 through 2006. He then became Chief Medical Officer and retired from that position in 2014. He was a residency program director for 20 years and served as the Chair of the Residency review committee for Internal medicine in 2000. He now sees patients mostly with thyroid disease or complex medical illness. Of note, he continues as Team Physician for the Oakland Athletics baseball Team- a position he has held for 31 years. Alan works part time to continue to teach residents and fellows. He no longer does much research but is best known for discovering that Ketoconazole blocks testosterone and adrenal hormone synthesis and then applying this to treating prostate cancer and Cushing’s syndrome. He spends his leisure time on his farm which is situated forty miles from San Francisco.
