About the Program
California Pacific Medical Center offers a four year general psychiatry residency program in one of the most highly regarded medical centers in Northern California. There are four residents per year (a total of 16). An enthusiastic and dedicated core faculty provide individualized attention to residents in an environment where education is highly valued. There is a large clinical attending staff that provides supervision in various modalities and disciplines in psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy and specialized areas of psychiatry. Clinical sites are rich and diverse with the majority of time spent on the CPMC Pacific campus. The academic, cultural and social resources of the Bay Area contribute to an exciting training environment, in a residency program that values the individual.
The residency program provides an in-depth, well-rounded curriculum that draws from a mix of philosophies and experience. It benefits from strong institutional alliances with the academic and professional resources of San Francisco. The patient base is diverse: clinically, culturally, and socioeconomically, offering residents the chance to participate in a full spectrum of clinical activity with patients of all ages with a wide range of psychiatric disorders.
California Pacific Medical Center has a long tradition of outstanding clinical services and a commitment to high quality graduate education. The primary campus (PAC Campus) is in the Pacific Heights section of San Francisco and is a tertiary care center for medicine, surgery, psychiatry and many subspecialties. This is home to the psychiatry department and the majority of residency rotations (e.g. Adult Inpatient, Emergency room, Psychosomatic service, and the Outpatient department). The majority of our faculty are at this site and run the clinical services. This allows for cohesion, continuity of care and ongoing attention to quality clinical care and education. Residents and faculty are constantly in easy access to each other, allowing for the best possible apprenticeship training.
The Pacific Campus is located just blocks from the new CPMC flagship Van Ness Campus. Collaborative care will remain a priority.
