Message from the Chief Residents
Welcome to Sutter Sacramento/Davis and thank you for considering our residency program.
We have so many passionate faculty, adjunct faculty and volunteer teachers. Because we are unopposed, we are the only residency in our hospitals, giving us the opportunity to be directly involved in all our patients’ care.
Beyond the residency experience, Sacramento and Davis have been great cities to live in – plenty of fun sports, concerts and outdoor adventures.
"I chose the Sutter Family Medicine Residency Program for its broad range of training opportunities and its warm, collegial atmosphere. Women’s health and outpatient procedures were two areas I particularly wanted to focus on, and the residency has definitely helped me to cultivate my knowledge and experience in preparation for my own future practice. We are blessed with a compassionate and diverse group of residents and faculty who work together to make our program something special. I am so happy I came to this residency and I am grateful for the training and opportunities I have received here." — Salla Hennessy, M.D. 2018-19 Chief Resident, Sacramento Track
"I am the Davis Track chief, and after residency I will be going to OB fellowship. The last 2 ½ years have been a fantastic learning experience. I have loved how much the residents here are completely embraced into the culture of the hospitals and clinics. I have been able to expand my interests in all the aspects of family medicine that I wanted — OB/women’s health, sports, clinic procedures." — Melissa Wilcox, M.D. 2018-19 Chief Resident, Davis Track

"Of all the 11 programs I visited, I got a subtle sense of tremendous pride and well-being from among the residents at Sutter. That instinct served me well. I know Sutter FMRP was the best possible choice I could have made."
Silen Bun, MD (Graduate)
"I rotated here as a medical student and I love the people and my experience. It felt like a family and everyone really cared about my learning and happiness. I knew that I would get the same experience as a resident, and I did!"
Elizabeth Ward Pham, MD (Graduate)
"I wanted an unopposed family medicine residency program, where I would have a high level of responsibility for patient care across all medical disciplines in the context of a supportive and caring team. I graduated in 2006, and I am grateful for my excellent residency training every day."
