Sutter Health’s motto is “The Birth Place of Pioneers,” and our Family Medicine Residency is truly that. Since our inception in 1995, we have combined a strong, dedicated core faculty, community preceptors, innovative curriculum and award winning medical centers so that our residents develop the skills needed to be outstanding family physicians and leaders in their communities.
Our first time board pass rate remains 100% since the inception of the program. Over a recent five-year period (2011-15), our program had the second highest board scores among the dozen family residencies in Northern California.
As a stand-alone program, our residents enjoy working side by side with specialists and have opportunities to perform many procedures. We offer full reproductive women's health with c-section privileged faculty and abortion training. Our residents have a significant voice in fulfilling their educational goals. Whether your interest is integrative medicine or global healthcare or working on healthcare policy, we will help you reach your goals.
Of 130+ graduates, most of whom practice in Northern California in every type of practice from full spectrum Family Medicine with obstetrics to public health administration, all report their training prepared them well for what came next.
Over the last 20+ years, we have developed a culture of collaboration nurtured by team building, Balint group and support group. Our “pioneers” develop the skills and knowledge needed for independent practice. We embrace diversity as a strength and place the well-being of residents, faculty and staff as our highest priority.
